According to IBM’s numbers, sales increased again this year, but maybe not as spectacularly as was expected.

Total online sales increased by 15.8% compared to the same period last year. However, other days of the year have seen higher increases. Online sales on November 26 increased by 18 percent compared to last year’s Cyber Monday. However, customers spent less this year, with an average £100.16 per transaction spent, compared to £105.10 last year. SagePay saw a peek in e-commerce transaction being processed between 12pm and 1pm as shoppers skipped lunch to take advantage of online deals.

Mobile sales increase, with 14.2% of all sales being completed through a mobile device. Most of the traffic and shopping came from iPad devices – amounting to 10.6% of all online shopping.

The predictions might be lower than expected but it will take a while for all the numbers to be made public. Giant retailers such as Amazon have reported an incredible rise in sales. “I can confirm that Cyber Monday was the busiest day of the year to date at Amazon.co.uk,” a spokeswoman told V3.

With Cyber Monday predicted as only the beginning of a four -ay online shopping spree, it remains to be seen how much Britons spend online this year.
