Vodafone Pilots Mobile Shopping Wall For German Grocer

Vodafone, a mobile network operator, announced it is piloting “Virtual Shelf”—a mobile shopping wall for grocery outlet Emmas Enkel—in Dusseldorf, Germany, reported NFC World. The initiative will allow 5,000 employees to purchase groceries via scanning QR codes and NFC payments.

    After a consumer uses the retailer’s mobile app to scan the QR code, the phone will automatically redirect them to the company website. Once all items are ready for checkout, shoppers have a few payment options to select from. The options include debit and credit card payments, click and collect, or paying the driver on delivery.

    “We are combining the traditional grocery store with the online store,” Benjamin Bruser, CTO and founder of Emmas Enkel, told NFC World. “We invented the idea and we developed the Virtual Shelf in partnership with Vodafone, who supplied the LED screens for the display and helped us in making our idea become a reality.”
