Smartphone Users Double In Middle East, Africa

According to a new report by eMarketer, the Middle East and Africa region is expected to have the second largest mobile phone population by the end of 2013, following the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, smartphone users are set to double by the end of 2013, growing from 1.5 percent in 2009 to 21.3 percent.

    At present, there are 525.8 million people are reported to have used a mobile phone at least monthly in 2013, which is much higher than North America and Western Europe. This figure increased from the 358.3 million reported in 2009. Furthermore mobile penetration rates in MEA are expected to increase from 5.1 percent to 8.3 percent by the end of the year.
