SmartMetric has announced its plans to introduce a new “fingerprint activated ‘biometric’ payments card” in North America, according to an October 9 press release.
This card will be activated by the user’s fingerprint, allowing for biometric identification. The card will then turn on and store the fingerprint.

SmartMetric’s President indicated in the release that this biometric card “represents a giant leap in technological innovation that will be a game changing technology in the card industry.” SmartMetric plans to release the card for trials in late 2013.
