France-based smart card technology provider Oberthur Technologies has been selected by major Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi to provide its NFC capabilities to its newly released Mi3 phone, an October 24 press release revealed.
Oberthur indicated that it was chosen because of its strong authentication and ability to be used in transit, access and loyalty applications.

“Through this partnership with Xiaomi, Oberthur Technologies supports the new mobile payment ecosystem in China” Cédric Collomb, an Oberthur Technologies managing director, said in an October 24 statement.
