USB Drives Enabled Thieves To Hack European ATMs In July

Cyber-thieves used USB drives to successfully upload malware into ATMS located in Europe during the summer of 2013, ATM Marketplace reported on December 31.

    The software allowed the thieves to gain control of the ATM and conduct machine balance inquiries and make withdrawals.

    The attack, which occurred in July, reportedly was sophisticated enough that the malware featured a two-tiered password system to ensure that participants didn’t try to run off with the cash.
