Billie and Mollie Partner to Offer B2B BNPL Across Europe

B2B BNPL

Billie and Mollie have partnered to offer B2B buy now, pay later (BNPL) across Europe.

With this partnership, Billie’s B2B BNPL solutions have been integrated into Mollie’s payments application programming interface (API), the companies said in a Wednesday (March 22) press release emailed to PYMNTS.

This new offering went live in Germany on Wednesday and will be expanded to other European markets this year, according to the release.

“Buy now, pay later online payment methods are immensely important for B2B eCommerce merchants, especially in the small and medium-sized segment,” Mollie Managing Director DACH Annett Polaszewski-Plath said in the release. “BNPL makes it possible to offer more flexible payment terms, improve cash flow, accelerate the purchase decision and minimize the risk of payment defaults for B2B merchants.”

The service enabled by the new partnership of Billie and Mollie gives business customers 30 days to pay for the goods they have purchased while, at the same time, the merchants selling those items get paid upfront, according to the press release.

Billie performs real-time credit approval at checkout, allows shopping cart limits of up to 100,000 euros and provides default and fraud risk protection, the release said.

Mollie provides access to this offering through its dashboard while also helping merchants manage shipments, refunds and other post-purchase tasks, per the release.

“In B2B, payment by invoice has long been the payment method of choice, allowing businesses to optimize working capital and keep their own customers happy,” Billie Co-founder and Managing Director Christian Grobe said in the release. “With the shift to eCommerce catching on in B2B, we have seen a huge demand for our digital BNPL solution, offering the same flexibility when purchasing online.”

Billie has worked since its founding in 2016 to bring the BNPL solution into the 21st century for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) by “consumerizing the business shopping experience” and removing the bottlenecks that have been built into the traditional B2B payment and purchasing experience, Billie Co-founder and Co-CEO Matthias Knecht told PYMNTS in an interview posted in February 2022.

“I firmly believe the need for this kind of product is ubiquitous — it’s just everywhere. You’re looking at the buyers and the challenges these business buyers have and it’s just the same in every country,” Knecht said at the time.
