Approximately one-third of online sales in the United Kingdom originated from mobile devices, meaning mobile now accounts for a fast-growing share of the UK’s online sales.

In the fourth quarter of 2013, more than 35 percent of all retail sales originated from a smartphone or tablet, Mobile Entertainment reported March 3.

Clothing and fashion retailers reported the highest mobile-commerce penetration at 36 percent of sales.

“With an estimated 12 million tablet devices sold in the UK alone last year, and 70 percent of UK consumers now owning a smartphone, it is not surprising that the penetration of mobile commerce has reached a third of the UK online retail market,” said Tina Spooner, IMRG chief information officer.
