Mobile Order-Ahead Provider Ranking Hungry for Answers to Ranking Riddles

Dunkin App

Will people revert to pre-pandemic behaviors if the pandemic more or less fades out? That question is echoing off boardroom walls from New York to Nanking. But we’ve got the data.

First simple answer: Yes.

Yes, consumers are already going back to some activities from before COVID-19 entered the common lexicon. Sporting events. Concerts. Even restaurants.

Next question: Are we seeing the impact of the return to on-premises dining in PYMNTS’ Provider Ranking of Mobile Order-Ahead Apps?

Second simple answer: No. From the look of this latest ranking, people are still enjoying mobile order-ahead (MOA) in droves. Our guess is that this will continue. Food just tastes better when you didn’t cook it and you don’t have to wash pots and pans. It’s not exactly rocket science.

On that semi-obnoxious note, join us for a heaping helping of MOA rankings.

The Top Five

If only this was video (or even audio), we might use a clip of trumpets right here, as we announce that we have a new No. 1. Any guesses? Do-nut hesitate. Okay. It’s the DUNKIN’ app.

That rise in the ranks pushes two apps down a spot, but they remain locked in a tied score. That would be Domino’s Pizza and Starbucks — still tied, but now at No. 2.

Panera Bread is having a snack at No. 3, rising one chart position like baking dough.

The Taco Bell app drops a spot to No. 4, but they rarely depart the top five.

Meanwhile, yummy Chick-fil-A holds on at No. 5. No change for the lords of chicken.

Wasn’t that tasty? And quick? You know it was. Hope you saved room for dessert.

The Top 10

Down below, there’s still a tie at No. 6, but the players have changed. Still there from last cycle is the Pizza Hut app, now joined by Wingstop, which drops a spot (and out of the top five).

Some mighty big brands tend to rank lower, but we do see a correlation to how many physical locations said brands have scattered around.

For example, there’s big Burger King, just sitting on its throne at No. 7. No change.

Same for the McDonald’s app, sticking at No. 8 even as some locations start allowing crypto payments. We don’t know about those blockchain burgers. Better order some and report back.

Three-of-a-kind is a big deal in poker. Here are three No. 9s for MOA apps.

Starting with those already so ranked, we’ve still got the Papa John’s Pizza app at No. 9 (no change there), as well as drive-in favorite Sonic remaining.

The big change is Chipotle, tumbling three chart positions since last cycle to complete the three-way tie for ninth in the latest Provider Ranking of Mobile Order-Ahead Apps.

That leaves just one more spot on the top 10, and as has been the case the last few months, it’s occupied by the Sheetz app, because people like to snack while fueling up.

Hungry for more? Try mobile order-ahead. Simply everyone is doing it … and will likely continue.
