LocalResponse Succeeds With “SoLoMo” Commerce

There’s a fine line to toe when it comes to using a consumer’s social data to spur commerce, even if that data is publicly available. But LocalResponse seems to think it has the answer for combining social, local, and mobile elements (“SoLoMo”) into an effective commerce platform.

LocalResponse generates its revenues on the merchant side of commerce, helping retailers find consumers already headed to their stores by scouring that previously mentioned social data. Most recently, the company partnered with ShopLocal, which digitizes those paper circulars you’re used to getting in your USA Today, to combine its social crawling with an up-to-date resource for product information.

Now, explains president and co-founder Kathy Leake, the goal is to close the loop. Leake says her company, which is already seeing click-through rates of more than 50 percent with offers powered by its platform, wants to add on a mobile payment system, so that it can better track the conversions it drives through its mobile offers. (Any point-of-sale terminal specialists out there looking for an innovative social commerce partner?)
