Banks, FIs Are Targets In 20 Percent Of Phishing Scams

U.K.-based endpoint protection solution vendor Kaspersky Lab has completed a new study that found bank and financial institution users were targeted in 20 percent of phishing attacks from May 2012 through April 2013.

    “When attacking banks and its users, cybercriminals go right to the money – their main motivation,” Dmitry Bestuzhev, Kaspersky’s head of global research, said in a release. “They can now successfully attack users by creating fake online banking service pages and online storefronts in order to obtain personal data from consumers.”

    Of the banks participating in the study, 37 percent reported to being affected by phishing attacks over the last year.
