Coinstar Rebrands As Outerwall, Buys ecoATM

Coin-counting kiosk and Redbox movie rental kiosk provider Coinstar rebranded as Outerwall, Inc. on July 2, according to a company press release.

The rebranding comes at a time when the company is trying to diversify its offerings. Outerwall also acquired recycling kiosk maker ecoATM, a company that it had previously invested in, for $350 million the same day.

“We are enthusiastic about the future and committed to building on our existing brands Redbox entertainment and Coinstar money services, as well as uncovering the next idea that will create a better everyday for our consumers, retailers and partners,” Outerwall CEO Scott Di Valerio said in a statement.
