Feds To Rule On Bitcoin Campaign Donations

The Federal Election Commission (FEC), the independent regulatory agency that oversees federal elections, will soon issue a ruling on whether campaign donations can be made in alternative currencies, Politico reported on September 4.

The Conservative Action Fund, a conservative PAC that is aiming to increase the number of elected Republican politicians, made the request.

“As increasing numbers of individuals trade in bitcoin, political parties and candidates also wish to accept and spend this new currency,” Dan Backer, a spokesperson for the political law firm DB Capitol Strategies, wrote in the request, the media outlet said.
