France Continues To Clamp Down On Amazon

French officials are still fighting the digital revolution. According to Reuters, the government is attempting to establish a new law that will prevent eCommerce giant, Amazon, from offering bundle discount offers or free delivery services for books in France.

The culture minister argued that online retailers were creating unfair competition for local, traditional bookshops. The government is adamant about introducing new legislation, and is working to determine the right time to put the law into effect.

A spokesperson for the SLF book retailers’ union, told Reuters, “Today, the competition is unfair… No other book retailer, whether a small or large book or even a chain, can allow itself to lose that much money.”
