NFC Mobile Ticketing Goes Live In France

CTS, a French transit operator, announced the commercial roll out of the NFC mobile ticketing program for public transportation in Strasbourg, France, reported NFC World. The mobile ticketing service was completed through a partnership with several mobile network operators, namely Orange, Bouygues Telecom, SFR and NFJ Mobile. The pilot was originally launched in April 2013, and since then 650 individuals have signed up for its services.

    Customers can purchase monthly and daily tickets for the bus or city tram in Strasbourg with the U’Go mobile app. Payments that are under €15 will be billed to the customer’s mobile phone, and payments higher than €15 must be completed by entering bank card information.

    Commuters who use the service must tap their phone against the NFC tag to confirm prepaid ticket purchases. The system validates mobile tickets for up to 24 hours after the customer’s phone battery dies or if their phone is off.
