Report: Microsoft Scraps Amazon, eBay Rival

The Wall Street Journal reports that Microsoft had once planned to compete with Amazon and eBay by launching its own eCommerce store.

The newspaper’s sources say the initiative, called “Project Brazil” internally, would have created an online marketplace that allowed shoppers to purchase from a variety of retailers while using a single shopping cart.

“Project Brazil was an incubation to enable a more direct commerce model between customers and brands and merchants,” a spokeswoman for the tech giant told the Journal.
