Report: PayPal Denies Reward To Teenage Bug-Finder

A 17-year-old German student claims that PayPal is refusing to reward him for finding a vulnerability in their website because of his age, according to a PC World report.

Like most major Internet companies, PayPal offers rewards to enterprising users who can find vulnerabilities in its website as part of its “Bug Bounty Program.” However, the student, Robert Kugler, claims that he’s being denied compensation because he is 17.

“Robert Kugler said he notified PayPal of the vulnerability on May 19,” PC World reports. “He said he was informed by email that because he is under 18 years old, he did not qualify for its Bug Bounty Program.”

The website pointed out that Kugler, who will turn 18 next March, may qualify for the prize, as it says PayPal’s terms and conditions for the program don’t specify an age requirement. The source says the teenager is only asking for the company to acknowledge the find for future use on his resume.

According to PC World, PayPal officials did not have an immediate comment.
