The process, also known as Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode, allows merchants to authenticate a consumer with his or her bank right at checkout. Merchants can also get lower processing fees with 3-D Secure, making the consumer’s bank financially liable.

“The 3-D Secure authentication and authorization processes may seem complex to merchants, but 3-D Secure MPIs and the SecureBuy 3DS Decision Engine are relatively easy to implement. Once in place the automation handles all of the heavy lifting for the merchant,” said Greg Wooten, CEO of SecureBuy, in a statement.
