Telefonica To Launch mPOS Readers In Czech Republic

Telecom company Telefonica (O2) announced it is gearing up to launch a mobile point of sale pilot with MasterCard Worldwide that will enable NFC payments in the Czech Republic, reported NFC Times. The pilot is set to launch in September of this year and is designed to help small merchants in the region.

    Participating merchants will use a mPOS reader that supports MasterCard PayPass, EMV cards and magnetic stripe payments. Telefonica told NFC Times the commercial launch of the technology would come in early 2014, and will be expanded beyond the Czech Republic to Germany and Slovakia.
