Valitor Ordered To Process Donation Payments For WikiLeaks

The Icelandic Supreme court has requested that Valitor, a local card acquiring service, begin processing payments for WikiLeaks, reports Finextra. The court has mandated that Valitor begin processing within a 15-day period, or they will be charged with about $7,000 in fines. Valitor, formerly Visa Iceland, blocked donations to WikiLeaks in 2010 after the website published US State Department cables. The donation block cut off about 95 percent of donations, reaching a cost of more than $20 million. The Icelandic court concluded that Valitor violated their contract and is now asking them to reopen donations or pay daily fines. Valitor attempted to appeal the ruling but the Iceland Supreme Court threatened further fines.
