Apple Caps Record Breaking Summer With Plans to Announce New iPhone September 9th

Keeping with its track record of announcing its newest phones in early September, such that they are ready to fall into the hands of holiday shoppers starting in October, Apple will likely be announcing its new iPhone at an event already scheduled for October 9,  reports The Wall Street Journal.

In a rare move for the company, Apple will be following recent design trends this time around by offering two larger-screened options—a 4.7-inch display and a 5.5-inch display.  Apple has stuck with the small 4-inch display even as rivals, notably Samsung, have made their devices and screen progressively larger.

This news follows a summer of strong performance for the Cupptertino-based hardware/software giant.  Apple told CNBC yesterday that July was a recording setting month for customers making transactions within Apple’s app store.  July’s barn burning results follow a second quarter that apparently elated Apple’s normally reserved CEO Tim Cook.

“I couldn’t be happier. This is the best execution of any quarter since I’ve been at Apple,” CEO Tim Cook told CNBC.

Apple users are not only downloading more apps, recent data also indicates they are also somewhat more likely to actually use them once the download them.  According to data reported on by Forbes, iOS users are in fact seven times more active online than their Android using counterparts.

This comes as Android users are just starting to surpass iOS users in the real numbers of apps downloaded. Android already represents 85 percent of the smartphones on the market today.
