EMP Opens in Kenya

E-payments processing firm Emerging Markets Payments has opened an office in Kenya. The company covers main payment channels such as cards, mobile and ID-enabled payments for more than 130 banks and 30k merchants in 35 countries. In Kenya there are 10.7 payments cards, with a growth estimated at 12%.

“There is a strong correlation between access to financial services and growth in GDP. While the growth of MPesa has been remarkable, there is still a long way to go to ensure that the national payments infrastructure supports a modern, dynamic economy. We believe that EMP, with its extensive experience and processing scale, can play a key role in the evolving national payments system. We are the most experienced EMV processor on the continent, having been promoting the standard for over 10 years” said Paul Edwards, Executive Chairman of the EMP Group.
