Moving away from Paypal, Etsy launched its own “direct checkout” in 2012 that enabled sellers to accept credit and debit cards and some other international payment methods. However, direct checkout has remained optional for sellers, according to ecommercebytes.com.

The newly added countries of Estonia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Portugal, and Spain join a list of 18 other countries providing services in 10 different currencies.

The Brooklyn, N.Y.-based company charges 3 percent on the selling price of an item in addition to a transaction fee of 25 cents. On the buyer’s end, Etsy collects the funds for the seller and deposits them into the seller account, minus the processing fee.

There’s been a happy consensus about the addition of new countries with seller’s asking for more countries being added like Brazil, Croatia, India, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, Taiwan, and Turkey, according to the website.

“We’re aware of seller demand for this, and we’re continuing to work on making Direct Checkout available in even more countries in the future,” wrote an Etsy moderator.
