The good people at the incredibly aptly named 9to5mac have discovered a handy new trick available with the newest Safari upgrade for iOS – the ability to enter payment details at shopping sites by scanning credit cards with an iPhone camera.

    The feature is meant to remove one of the main problems consumers have with mobile commerce, the relative inconvenience of having to enter a long string of number using a virtual keypad on a small screen.

    The system further allows card numbers that have been saved in the browser to be auto filled during future purchases.

    Website developers seemingly don’t have to do anything to enable the feature, as features automatically detects when a credit card number is being requested, at which point it places a scan option above the keypad.
