A UNFPA finance associate spoke at the UNFPA Joint Program meeting made up of UN Finance Monitoring Team and the Cross River State representative, which was held in Calabar last weekend, reported The Sun.

“Temptations by vendors of services for the department to pay them in cash should be resisted so that withdrawals before implementation would be discontinued,” UNFPA’s Francis Anyanshi said.

The news source added that UNFPA executives said that the purpose of the entity’s visit was not to define roles, but to support the implementing partners, identify weaknesses and fill necessary gaps through recommendations.

The program will monitor governance, human resource and program guidance, as well as evaluate finance, procurement, comparative advantage, knowledge management and partnership, UNFPA Program Analyst, Dashi Dasogit said at the meeting, reported the news source. Dasogit added that the objective of the exercise was to further ensure that funds disbursement, utilization and retirement were in line with UNFPA Financial Rules and Regulations.
