MyCheck Brings Apple Pay To UK Dining

The mobile payment platform for consumers who dine out, MyCheck, announced its support for Apple Pay in the U.K. Tuesday (July 14) by offering customers the payment option when settling the bill at restaurants.

Customers who use Apple Pay with MyCheck will be able to authorize a transaction with TouchID via a restaurant’s native iOS app or through one of MyCheck’s partner apps. They can pay the entire bill or split with others without having to rely on a waiter, as well as redeem offers, and with the upcoming launch of iOS 9, customers will also be able to participate in loyalty programs through the MyCheck platform.

“The potential for Apple Pay in the restaurant sector cannot be overstated. Consumers will be attracted to venues that can offer slick and seamless payments via Apple Pay. Restaurants need to see Apple Pay not just as a more secure way to enable mobile payments, but as a customer acquisition tool,” MyCheck’s Managing Director for Europe Gil Hazan said in a company release. “The combined Apple Pay and MyCheck Pay-at-Table proposition allows restaurants to deliver an unrivaled customer experience that will boost engagement, loyalty and ultimately revenues.”

The company identified a number of advantages for restaurants accepting Apple Pay via MyCheck, including enhanced security through the payment technology, the elimination of purchasing new hardware since Apple Pay will work directly with the Point-of-Sale system on MyCheck’s platform and the ability to quickly pay and leave when they want.

According to a 2014 study cited by MyCheck, research showed mobile payments have the potential to increase revenues within the restaurant sector by £5.6 billion (roughly $8.7 billion), while increasing table turnover and sales by 14.1 percent. That could open the doors for huge opportunity as consumers continue to spend more on dining out.

MyCheck’s use of Apple Pay to help facilitate mobile dining payments in the U.K. comes at a time when the payment technology has the potential to scale rapidly in the region due to the population’s affinity for contactless payments.

Upon its launch Tuesday, Apple Pay was expected to rollout at 250,000 locations, a network which is anticipated to grow quickly.
