That figure is up from the 650 million monthly active users Google reported in October 2025.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, said in a Tuesday post on X: “1B+ people are now using [the Gemini app] every month to spark new ideas and get things done. It’s our fastest-growing product ever, and our 14th to hit the 1B-user mark.”

Josh Woodward, vice president, Google Labs, Gemini and AI Studio, said in a Tuesday post on X: “One billion for Gemini! Our goal remains to make it the most personal, proactive and powerful assistant.”

According to the Google blog post, 63% of users now talk directly to Gemini, 1 in 5 Gemini Live interactions go beyond voice to include live camera feeds and screen sharing, and Gemini generates more than 150 million images every day.

“It lets you do images, video and audio in one place, helping small businesses create products like marketing materials,” Google said in the post.

For Android users, Gemini can now automate actions across more than 40 apps, a capability that Google said is “great for booking rides, reserving tables and more.”

Google also said in the post that Apple users are adopting Gemini, with more than 100 million active users on Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS, and the users of Apple’s desktop and laptop computer operation system, macOS, prompting twice as frequently as other surfaces.

Google began rolling out the Gemini app in February 2024. At the time, the company said the mobile experience included a new Gemini app on Android and Gemini capabilities as part of the Google app on iOS.

It was reported June 2 that OpenAI’s ChatGPT app reached 1 billion global monthly active users in May, about three years after its launch, and that Anthropic’s Claude app had 56 million global monthly active users. At the time, the ChatGPT app was seeing year-over-year growth of 62%, while the Claude app was seeing year-over-year growth of 640%.
