Walmart, Handy Tie-Up Goes Live Online

To help Walmart’s online customers access assembly and installation, the retailer is broadening its relationship with home services company Handy, which will now offer services via Walmart.com, Retail Dive reported.

“Walmart has always led on innovation, and it’s learned quickly that services like assembly and installation are not just nice-to-haves,” Handy co-founder and CEO Oisin Hanrahan said in an announcement.

Customers will be able to buy services from Handy with only one click in the checkout process. The offering will allow shoppers to have a local professional assemble or set up items such as lighting, furniture or smart home devices. To that end, customers can schedule appointments between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

The news comes after Walmart announced in March that it was partnering with Handy to offer customers at more than 2,000 of its stores installation and assembly services. Before the addition of the online offering, customers could purchase Handy’s at-home services while checking out in the store, and then simply schedule an appointment with a qualified local professional to perform the tasks.

“Our program with Handy enables us to eliminate the friction of installation and assembly, and offer customers a convenient, delightful experience from start to finish,” Daniel Eckert, senior vice president of Walmart Services and Digital Acceleration, Walmart U.S., said in the announcement. “We know Handy’s services are going to be a big help to our busy customers.”

This is the latest service Walmart is developing for its customers. Earlier this year it announced that it was planning to offer grocery delivery in 100 cities in the U.S. by the end of 2018.

“Walmart is relentlessly devoted to improving their customer’s shopping experience,” Hanrahan said. “We are thrilled to work with Walmart to fundamentally enhance the way that their shoppers access the services needed to enjoy their purchases.”
