Can Pinterest Monetize Traffic Bump From Hot New ‘Collage’ App?

Pinterest

A new standalone app from Pinterest that enables both collage-making and shopping has been quickly embraced by users.

According to multiple media reports, Shuffles has been ranked as high as No. 1 among Lifestyle apps on the App Store since its release in July, even though the app is currently available on an invitation-only basis.

As PYMNTS reported Aug. 2, Shuffles simplifies collage-making as well as the sharing and shopping for the user’s favorite online finds.

Content created with Shuffles has gone viral on TikTok, driven in part by the app’s enabling users to quickly cut-and-paste objects from photos as well as add effects, according to a report by TechCrunch.

“The app takes collaging one step further with simple embedded tools that would require multiple steps or coordination across multiple apps,” data.ai Head of Insights Lexi Sydow said in the report.

What’s more, when viewers click on an object in a collage created with Shuffles, they can tap on it, view it on Pinterest and, if the object is available for purchase, go to the retailer’s website to buy it, per the report.

This tracks with Pinterest’s focus on new features and tools to make the platform more shoppable without losing its status as a place of inspiration.

As PYMNTS reported, the social media platform launched new merchant features in July, including The Pinterest API for Shopping, Product Tagging for Pins, Shop Tab on Business Profiles and Video in Catalog.

Pinterest users will now have a direct path to purchase, Pinterest Senior Vice President and Head of Engineering Jeremy King told PYMNTS’ Karen Webster in an interview posted July 25.

“Once they discover, they want to be able to make that transaction happen — we call it inspiration to action,” King said. “The action part is what we’ve been working on in the last couple years.”
