MasterCard Pulls All-Nighter To “Take Initiative”

What do you get when you take 400 MasterCard employees and split them into 85 teams across seven tech hubs?

“Real, scalable ideas.”

At least that’s the concept of the company’s first Take Initiative, which MasterCard recently held to help its employees come together to collaborate, build ideas, share ideas and create a vision for a project. With its ever-growing Hackathon series underway — and headed to Mexico City in August — MasterCard decided to let its own employees in on the fun to show off their own talents and see what ideas could be harnessed across its teams.

As explained in a company blog post by Rebecca Kaufman, a MasterCard Communications Specialist: “Take Initiative was a company first. Think ideation event melded with a hackathon taking place across all seven of MasterCard’s tech hubs around the world over the course of the same two days. Eighty-five teams of up to five employees each spanned across business units and skill sets. They had just two short days to develop a solution to a problem, think through a business plan and develop a working prototype.”

And the goal? “Generating real, scaleable solutions, for [MasterCard] to take to the market,” explains a video highlighting the event. To see more about how the teams from Dublin, New York, St. Louis, San Carlos, Baroda, Pune and Singapore came together, catch the quick video below.
