Melissa Davis, head of North America at Afterpay, said in a Monday (April 5) press release that the company is highlighting sustainable shopping options “from fashion-forward brands.”

“Gen Z and Millennials are conscious shoppers who make mindful choices when they shop and we are proud to put the spotlight on organizations that are helping to tackle the complex issues facing our planet,” Davis said.

Starting Monday, Afterpay is also giving shoppers a chance to donate $1 at checkout to the non-profit design house Magpies & Peacock, and the nonprofit environmental firm Surfrider. Afterpay will match every donation.

Both firms work to combat waste. Magpies & Peacocks sustainably upcycles used clothing to disrupt the fashion industry’s cycle of waste, while Surfrider is on a mission to protect the people’s enjoyment of the ocean.

“At Magpies & Peacocks we always ask ourselves how we can look at a solution from the perspective of People, Planet and Profit — how can we tackle something head on sustainably by doing right by it socially, environmentally and economically,” said Magpies & Peacocks CEO Sarah-Jayne Smith. “We are thrilled to partner with Afterpay as part of that process and are humbled to be part of their Top Up Donation program.”

And beginning this month, Afterpay will integrate a live shopping technology platform in partnership with social commerce firm MagicLinks, to help inspire people to shop more consciously. Customers will be able to shop live for eco-friendly brands and pay in four interest-free installments.

The live shopping integration will launch for Afterpay’s 13 million consumers in mid-April, with plans to offer additional live shopping events in the coming months.

Last month, Afterpay launched a digital card consumers can use for shopping at physical retailers.
