So much for merchant savings… at least when it comes to your favorite DVDs.

For the first time in eight years, Coinstar will raise daily Redbox DVD rental costs. Beginning Monday, Oct. 31, those coming to Redbox vending machines will find DVD rates will have increased from $1 a day to $1.20 a day, according to media reports. Coinstar says the decision is in direct response to the new debit interchange caps implemented in response for the Dodd-Frank bill’s Durbin amendment.

Video games and Blu-ray movie rental rates will continue to be $2 and $1.50 per day, respectively.
