Ed McLaughlin, MasterCard’s Head of Emerging Payments, has dropped some hints that Apple’s iPhone 5 will be a frontrunner in the NFC payments sphere, according to a report by Fast Company.
While the technology is still in the preliminary stages, McLaughlin emphasized that he remains “bullish” on its future prospects and usage. When specifically asked about Apple, his reply stirred the pot: “Um, there are…like I say, [I don’t know of] any handset maker out there. Now, when we have discussions with out partners, and they ask us not to disclose them, we don’t.”
While he remained coy on Apple’s overall objective, McLaughlin did add, “I think as merchants provide these better interfaces for customers—a better way of transacting—I think any consumer-focused technology would want to take advantage of it.”
