NFC-based contactless payments will make their debut in Moscow subway stations by the end of this year, according to a report by RBTH.com.
Vimpelcom, a major Russian mobile operator, developed the technology last year and initially implemented it in the St. Petersburg subway system.

This is the latest NFC development for the country, which has seen an increase in consumer interest for the technology over the past two years. In October 2011 MTS, a Vimpelcom competitor, showcased a prototype of its ‘Store of the Future’, which enabled consumers to make payments directly from their bank accounts via mobile phones.
