With those increases, the total number of Same Day ACH payments reached 470.4 million in the third quarter, while the value of those payments rose to $1.3 trillion, according to the Nacha, which governs the ACH Network.
“Both the number of Same Day ACH payments, and the value of those payments, show the significant role that Same Day ACH plays in helping to meet the nation’s faster payment needs,” Nacha President and CEO Jane Larimer said in the release.

Overall, during the third quarter, the ACH Network saw year-over-year increases of about 6% in volume, which reached 9.3 billion payments, and 10% in value, which reached $25.6 trillion, according to the release.
B2B payments volume increased 9.7% to about 2.3 billion. Nacha attributed this growth to organizations continuing to move away from checks.
Among major transaction types, the ACH Network had year-over-year volume increases of 15.9% in P2P, 7.5% in internet, 2.6% in healthcare and 2.5% in direct deposit. There were 141.7 million payments in P2P, 3.1 billion in internet, 144.4 million in healthcare and 2.2 billion in direct deposit, according to an infographic released Tuesday by Nacha.
“As these quarterly increases continue, they demonstrate the strength of not only Same Day ACH, but the ACH Network overall,” Larimer said in the release.
The ACH Network can reach all U.S. bank and credit union accounts, and it is used to drive “safe, smart and fast” direct deposits and direct payments, the release said.
Nacha and its Payments Innovation Alliance launched a new digital assets-focused initiative called the Next-Gen Currency Project Team in September, saying it will explore the use of assets like stablecoins and tokenized deposits for money movement.
In August, Nacha announced that Flagright, which provides a transaction monitoring engine, has become a Nacha Preferred Partner for ACH Compliance, Fraud Monitoring, and Risk and Fraud Prevention. This designation means the organization has demonstrated leadership and innovation in products and services that advance the ACH Network, Nacha said at the time.
