MasterCard has entered into a partnership with Shopkick, a mobile loyalty startup that rewards consumers for walking into participating stores.
Shopkick’s most notable retail partner is Target — that means, if you download the Shopkick app to your iOS or Android device, you’ll instantly be rewarded with loyalty points (called “kicks” on the Shopkick platform) just for walking into Target and opening the app.
The partnership with MasterCard is built on Shopkick’s Buy & Collect feature. By linking their cards to their Shopkick accounts, consumers can earn additional points for using MasterCard products.
“As ‘showrooming’ becomes more and more of a threat to physical stores, shopkick and MasterCard can help retailers retain customers by offering rewards for in-store shopping,” offered Shopkick CEO and co-founder Cyriac Roeding in a statement.
American Eagle Outfitters, Arden B., Crate and Barrel, Old Navy, Toys”R”Us and Best Buy are also among Shopkick’s retail partners, MasterCard confirms.
