Vodafone has announced plans to bring the M-Pesa mobile payments platform to Myanmar, according to Finextra.
Myanmar has recently invited telecommunications companies to bid for two mobile licenses in the country, with Vodafone and China Mobile majoring a joint offer. Myanmar’s payments infrastructure is still in its infancy, with handset penetration below 10 percent and Visa and MasterCard only recently working with local banks on ATM and point-of-sale systems.
