Google Kills Checkout In Favor Of Wallet

Google is shutting down its Google Checkout service in the aftermath of updates to Google Wallet, the company announced on its blog Monday night.

    Google Checkout merchants will need to transition to other solutions such as Braintree, Shopify and Freshbook – all of which are offering discouts for Checkout converts – if they lack their own payment processing. U.S. merchants that do have their own processing are encouraged to apply for Google Wallet Instant Buy.

    Developers who sell through Google will automatically transition to the Google Wallet Merchant Center “in the next few weeks.”

    Last week, Google Wallet revealed several new features such as one-click purchasing in Chrome, the Instant Buy and Wallet Objects APIs and integration with Gmail for money transfers.
