Target Taps Facebook For Cartwheel App Promotion

Target, the second largest U.S. retailer, is relying almost exclusively on social promotions to advertise its new mobile app Cartwheel, Mobile Commerce Daily reports. The service, which began testing on May 8, aims to encourage Target’s online shoppers to visit brick-and-mortar locations for additional savings.

    “During the beta period, Cartwheel will be promoted primarily on Facebook and via Target.com, our mobile site and app and via Target emails to our guests,” Eddie Baeb, a Target spokesman, told the source.

    The ad campaign follows a number of other non-traditional marketing methods used by the company, which has recently used QR code initiatives and mobile games to promote products.
