Transportation startup GeoToll is designing a toll system that takes payments from smartphones in vehicles through NFC, RFID and GPS technology.
The system uses GPS to activate the GeoToll app on a driver’s smartphone when he or she approaches the toll, according to NFC World. An RFID chip embedded in the phone will be read by equipment at the toll booth, while NFC will then be used to facilitate payments.

GeoToll has not yet declared a roll-out date for its solution, but said it will carry out tests across the U.S. this year.
