Five Charged In Massive Card Data Breach Case

U.S. lawmakers have charged five suspects of compromising 160 million credit cards and causing hundreds of millions in losses for financial institutions and consumers, The Wall Street Journal reported on July 25.

    Nasdaq, OMX Group and J.C. Penney Co. were among those that were affected by the breach, according to the indictment. Four of the suspects are from Russia, while one is from Ukraine.

    The first criminal charges were filed in 2009, though the crimes date back to 2005. The alleged perpetrators face a variety of charges, and could face up to 30 years in prison.
