Kenyans Transfer Sh1.5T Via Mobile Money

A Central Bank report indicates that in the last year Kenyans have transferred over Sh1.5 trillion with mobile money services such as M-Pesa and Airtel Money. CBK stated that the value of mobile phone money transfers increased by 31.5 percent, and the number of agents grew by 52.4 percent (76,912 from 50,471) in the same period, as All Africa reported.

    The number of users also grew by 9.9 percent, reaching 21.1 million compared to the 19.2 million users last year. However, the report also indicated that the average value of transactions per customer fell to SH 2, 672 compared to SH 2,700 in 2011.
