MasterCard’s Biometrics Play

MasterCard has come together with Fido Alliance in an effort to replace password-based online authentication with hardware-embedded biometrics, according to a press release.

    Fido, using PayPal, plans to get rid of usernames and passwords and take advantage of technology that “automatically detects when a Fido-enabled device is present.” Options include fingerprints, iris scanning, USB security tokens, smart cards or NFC. MasterCard joined in on the plan just after Google.
