    In the wake of one of the biggest data breaches in U.S. history, federal authorities are urging merchants to avoid mistakes made by Target, Neiman Marcus and other retailers hit hard by cyberattacks the past few months.

    The government produced a report “Indicators for Network Defenders” to serve as a guide for merchants who want to take additional protective steps, Reuters reported on Jan. 16.
