Weve CEO David Sear has decided to leave his current company for another position, according to multiple reports.
According to Finextra, Weve released a statement that said Sear will leave “in due course.” However, he will continue to serve in his current position until a replacement could be found.
“We have no further details to share at this stage and will be making details of our new CEO public in due course,” Weve said.
Toward the end of last week, FierceWirelessEurope reported that Sear had accepted a position at another firm, and that the mobile marketing and payments venture was looking for a replacement. A Weve spokesperson gave a very similar statement to FierceWirelessEurope, saying that:
“We can confirm that our CEO, David Sear, has accepted a new role and will be leaving Weve in due course.”
The spokesperson added that further details would be released later this summer.

Sear was only appointed to Weve CEO in February 2013, taking over from Nancy Cruickshank. Just this past February, Sear was quoted as saying that mobile payments “are a bit of a mess.” Additionally, Sear said that “we’ll be waiting for another 10 years for adoption of mobile payments at scale” if the industry doesn’t recognize that it has to partner fully with banks and retailers.
