Amazon, Retailers Ready For Holiday Season More Than Ever

Did you know that 50 percent of units sold on Amazon are from third-party retailers? Well, wherever these third-party retailers are located, they’re ready for the holiday rush.

So ready that, according to a release, Amazon is predicting a record-setting sales year from businesses selling on the website.

Amazon and its affiliated sellers, small businesses and entrepreneurs have added 6 million new items to the site, just for Amazon Prime members. It’s part of the Seller Fulfilled Prime program, and it offers free two-day or next-day shipping for customers in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany and Japan.

With the anticipated “record-setting” sales year, keeping up with the demand is not a concern, according to Amazon. The Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service and growing Seller Fulfilled Prime program are ready and in place.

“We’re dedicated to making the fulfillment technology that Amazon develops available to sellers,” said Peter Faricy, VP for Amazon Marketplace. “The FBA service and Seller Fulfilled Prime program are the greatest opportunities in eCommerce for sellers to easily reach loyal Prime members and expand their business.”

Amazon said that the FBA service enables sellers to attract Prime members by having Amazon store and ship their products directly to customers while offering Prime benefits. With the Seller Fulfilled Prime program, those sellers are able to ensure a high bar for shipping speed and customer service and get their items badged as “Prime eligible.” This means they are able to ship their own orders at the “Prime speed” directly to their customers.

The tech giant said this is especially important for the Cyber Monday demand — on top of the entire shopping season — as there were more than 23 million items received on that date last year, which was a 40 percent increase over the previous year. More than 1 billion items were delivered through the FBA program in 2015.
