Fitness App Provider Ranking Sees 4 Leading Contenders Just 4 Points Apart

Fitness, app, Sweatcoin, MyFitnessPal, workout

To move ahead in PYMNTS’ Provider Ranking of Fitness Apps, the contenders must do some cross-training.

It’s not enough to build strength in one area — they must work just as hard on their channel coverage, up-to-date downloads, monthly average users, sessions per user and average session length. Those are some of the scoring factors used in this monthly evaluation.

This time around, there’s a close race among the leaders, as the four top-ranked apps are separated by only four points.

Now, let’s look at the tale of the tape for each of the apps.

The Top 5

There’s a new leader this month as Sweatcoin Walking Step Counter has climbed from third place to first with a score of 94. As that score is four points higher than last time, this app is one of this month’s movers and shakers.

Last month’s leader is just one point behind. FitCoach is now the runner-up with a score of 93.

Two points behind that is Planet Fitness. With a score of 91, this app has also dropped back one position since last time.

Rounding out the closely-matched top four is Workouts By Muscle Booster. With a score of 90, this app is just one point behind the contender in front of it and four points from the leader. It’s also moved up one position since last time and, with a score that’s five points higher than last time, it’s this month’s biggest mover and shaker.

Next up, running fifth with a score of 86, is MyFitnessPal. This app has slipped one level since last time.

The Top 10

Holding the No. 6 spot as it did last month is Strava: Run, Ride, Swim. This app has earned a score of 78.

Also maintaining its position in the rankings is FitOn. This app is ranked seventh with a score of 76.

There’s another familiar name at No. 8, as Nike Training Club holds on to this spot, now with a score of 63.

The trend continues at No. 9 as the two apps that shared this spot last month are here again. Map My Run By Under Armour and Runkeeper — GPS Running Tracker have each earned a score of 62.

Also keeping its position in the rankings is Workout For Women. With a score that’s four points higher than last time — and now stands at 51 — this app is one of this month’s movers and shakers. It also closes out the top 10 in this month’s Provider Ranking of Fitness Apps.
