No, the Germans have not invented a computer accessory for depositing cash via USB connection, according to Wirecard.
But customers at Lekkerland petrol stations, shops, and kiosks will soon be able to pay for online purchases with cash at 18,000 of the company’s 130,700 physical locations nationwide.
Lekkerland is partnering with Wirecard Bank AG and EZV Gesellschaft für Zahlungssysteme mbH (let’s call it “EZV”) to roll out a new cash-for-online system called BarPay. Beyond providing consumers without credit cards with a new way to pay, the partners say BarPay could reduce debt collection and cash on delivery management costs for merchants.
“Our national infrastructure ensures that almost all consumers can reach one of our BarPay acceptance agents within a maximum of ten minutes,” claims Jonny Natelberg, an executive vice president with Lekkerland.
Lekkerland generated 12.2 billion euros’ worth of sales in 2010. The Wirecard Group, parent to Wirecard Bank AG, provides payment services to 12,000 clients worldwide.
