Czech Republic Gets Mobile Money With MOBITO

MOBITO is providing consumers in the Czech Republic with a myriad of payment solutions from their phones. Similar to M-Pesa in the African continent, MOBITO works as a mobile wallet for smartphones and feature phones alike. The wallet allows users to pay for transport tickets, online purchases, POS purchases in selected restaurants, cafés and retailers as well as to send money to each other and top up their phone. Customers can choose to have the money debited from their bank account, through stored value account or even via their credit or debit card. The service is available to all mobile users in Czech Republic, regardless of their bank.

MOBITO is a joint venture of three of the largest global mobile providers – T-Mobile, Telefónica and Vodafone – and four major banks – Ceská sporitelna, GE Money Bank, Raiffeisenbank and UniCredit Bank – under the name MOPET CZ. Now Obethur Technologies and MoreMagic have been selected as the product’s technology partners and are deploying the MoreMagic Mobile Money platform Oberthur Technologies is leveraging the MoreMagic Mobile Money platform and its rich suite of mobile and smartphone applications to deliver a full set of Mobile Financial Services to power MOBITO, paving the way to the adoption of remote payments, as well as NFC and non-NFC proximity payments, across the Czech Republic
