Major Spanish Bank Prepares Mass Rollout of Contactless EMV Cards

La Caixa, a Spanish bank with more than 10 million customers, is preparing a large-scale rollout of new Opetlio contactless EMV payment cards through a partnership with Gemalto, Mobile Payments Today reports.

    The bank hopes to distribute one million cards throughout Barcelona by the end of the year, the report says. On the acceptance side, la Caixa says it has delivered contactless payment terminals to 15,000 local merchants, and has equipped 500 ATMs with contactless acceptance.
